Scyphocrinites aff. Elegans (ZENKER,1833)

Reference: CR121
Genus - Specie: Scyphocrinites aff. Elegans (ZENKER,1833)
Description: fossil crinoid, echinoderm, planktonic crinoid
Period: Silurian
Epoch-Stage-Strata: Pridoli ( Upper Silurian)
Era: Paleozoic
Age: (about 419-423 million years)
Common name: Lily of the Sea, fossil Crinoid
Comments: Phylum: Echinodermata, Subphylum: Crinozoa, Class: Crinoidea, Subclass: Camerata, Order: Monobathrida, Family: Scyphocrinitidae. A good representative of the genus Scyphocrinites (Family Scyphocrinitidae), magnificently preserved with its chalice and stem. Scyphocrinites was a cosmopolitan crinoid (sea lily). It has a chalice formed by numerous and starred plates. Its existence was widespread in the Upper Silurian and early Devonian. Sometimes they are found in mass associations and it is believed that they could have covered large territories. The area of the world famous Scyphocrinites crinoid deposits is located a few miles from Erfoud (Morocco), in the desert where lizards, snakes and many other creatures live, an inhospitable and arid place. The process to extract these pieces is very hard, laborious and carried out by hand with great risk for the excavator. The first step is to excavate a vertical well several meters deep until finding remains of the crinoids, once we reach the level, the excavation begins horizontally, until the plates are extracted that are later prepared and assembled for trade in the market of fossils of international collection. It is really impressive to see the whole process, how the Moroccans extract them from the earth and prepare them until they reach our museums and collections, they really are true treasures that must be valued .Extinct genus, original and authentic fossil, complete specimen, very well preserved, unrestored, repaired plate , medium size specimen, measures plate: 217 x 160 x 26 mm, weight: 1.784 grams, excellent quality , a classic. It is delivered and shipped with authenticity certificate. We ship worldwhide.

Cyatocrinites iowensis (OWEN & SHUMARD,1850)

Reference: CR25
Genus - Specie: Cyatocrinites iowensis (OWEN & SHUMARD,1850)
Description: fossil calyx crinoid , primitive echinoderm
Period: Carboniferous
Epoch-Stage-Strata: Lower Carboniferous(Middle Mississippian)
Era: Paleozoic
Age: Visean(about 330 - 346 million years)
Common name: Lily of the Sea, fossil Crinoid
Comments: The crinoids, colloquially called sea lilies, are benthic (anchored to the seabed) echinoderms that feed by filtration and are relatively common in the marine fossil record. Crinoids are also a living group, but relatively rare in today's oceans. A crinoid is essentially a starfish on a stalk, which is made up of number jars (little stalks) like little poker chips. Individual stems and columns are the most common crinoid fossils found in the field. Intact and fossilized crinoid heads (crowns, calyces) are much more difficult and rare. Upon death, the body of the crinoid begins to disintegrate very rapidly. The soft tissues that hold the pieces of the skeleton together break down and the skeleton crumbles and disarticulates. Crawfordsville crinoids in Indiana are known throughout the world for their variety, abundance, comparatively large size, and extraordinary aesthetic appeal. Crawfordsville (Montgomery County), Indiana, is known as one of the most interesting localities of crinoid deposits, a classic worldwide, having been frequently visited by collectors, geologists and paleontologists has provided the best material for the study of Carboniferous crinoids for researchers and paleontologists such as: Hall, Meek, Worthen, Lyon, Cassiday, Owen, Shumard among others, who have described, dated and made figures of many new species in various reports and books of this locality, which at present it continues to be studied, with new discoveries and the addition of new species. Superbly preserved Crinoid Calyx (Sea Lily) made up of numerous plates. Extinct, genuine and authentic original fossil, complete specimen, magnificent preservation and fossilization, natural, without restoration, professionally sandblasted in the original quarry, complete calyx, plate measures: 65 x 42 x 10 mm, measures calyx-Crown : 38 x 34 mm , weight: 62 grams, excellent quality.
